Holy Ale!

This evening I enjoyed a lovely beer. What kind of beer you may ask, well I'll tell you! You see this beverage was not picked due to knowledge of its deliciousness, heavens no! As a matter of fact I hadn't the foggiest idea if it would taste pleasant or not. The story of my quest to find this holy ale began months ago in a little bar in Bloomington, IN named Yogis. It was here I first gazed upon its magnificence and came to the conclusion that it's beery goodness would someday grace my lips with its presence. Alas, this bar did not carry my ale thus my journey had to continue elsewhere. Searching high and low through market after liquor store after market, I had lost all hope. For no store sold the holy ale that I so desperately longed for. My quest seemed to reach a halting point.
Then, out of nowhere! Like a fly ball in left field that comes as you're just biting into that funnel cake, I was hit with a surprise! A friend sent word of the holy ale being sighted across town in a market. It was on! Though I was working at the time, I quickly plotted the fastest route. As soon as I finished taking care of those kids, I raced to the store and instantly found it! Oh the joy! Monty Python's Holy Ail (Ale), sought after for it's epic name. My life is now fulfilled. It's also quite delicious might I add, but that's not as important.
*Remember, it's tempered over burning witches for that extra yummy flavor!

summer breeze makes me feel fine!

Since I'm trying to live life to the fullest and experience things I have never before, and since I have a blog, I suppose I should share my amazing adventure, if you will, I went on last week! Being in Florida, it is almost essential to visit the beach a time or two when vacationing. Clearwater beach has a vast array of cheesy tourist activities lined up throughout their lovely harbor, but I needed change! I needed to be different from the rest! I had to do something that not everyone and their mother does when visiting this area, but what? After researching activities and other recreation I came across a promising prospect! The Clearwater Community Sailing Center!

It was there that I took a two hour sailing lesson from my adorable instructor, Justin. After a quick overview in the terminology of all that is sailing, he and I set out in what I referred to as a pontoonie catamaran. Clearly I'm an expert on the topic. Might I say this was one of the coolest experiences ever, yes I will. Super cool! You quickly get used to how to maneuver the sails and the tiller, (I just threw out some awesome terminology) then pick up amazing speed on the open waters. Justin was a fantastic guide who actually laughed when I almost knocked him off the boat, accidentally of course, saying that definitely would've been a first! Very sweet of him to laugh off my mistake that he would've paid for. We chatted about many things, microbreweries, hipsters and school being some of our unique topics. It's nice to have a sailing partner if you're in the social mood, but going alone I'm quite certain would be rather fulfilling.
How something can be so exciting your heart races, and yet so calming you become completely at ease with the world as the ocean breeze grazes your face, is truly an amazing thing to experience. In short that was my reaction to this sailing adventure. While out on the water we saw numerous dolphins, some getting very close, a sea turtle and two stingrays. Nature is much closer to you when sailing than any of those other tourist activities. I highly recommend experiencing this at least once in your life. I plan to attempt it a few more times at least!

GLITTER ATTACK!!!

Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Love Monty Python.

love.

Leo Messi! Simply gotta love this man.
Well unless you're a Man U fan...

Lonely Island

I am someone who enjoys comedy probably more than most people. This trait I personally attribute to the fact that I grew up watching Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies. So, when I came across the videos and songs created by Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, I fell in love! From their short web series about ninjas to their now hugely popular comedic songs, these guys have got it!

A year ago I was lucky enough to meet Jorma, who was truly an awesome, down to earth and very funny man. Keep doing what you love guys! The world needs your humor!

Barca!!!

Congrats Barcelona!!!

Can I get a hell yeah for FC Barcelona beating Manchester United yesterday in the Champions League Final!? Hell Yeah!! Personally, I've been a super fan of Leo Messi even before you knew who he was! Love that man! So much talent in that 5ft 7in body! Yes I looked up his stats to find that, he also has a birthday coming up on June 24 according to Wikipedia. Ok that's getting creepy...

Hooray soccer!

Oh Mr. Hefner

Being the person I am, yes I know you are thinking an awesome one but that will be discussed another day, I felt the need to express my feelings on key people who have impacted the world in a significant manner. No I will not be discussing the commonly acknowledged figures of history, nor will I ever. They get enough credit as it is and most of them don't deserve it. A man who shaped society as we live it today, Hugh Hefner.
Many of you may say nay! Playboy is nothing more than sex and the objectification of women. Well you are ignorant and clearly are unaware of any American history after WWII. Brush up on modern American airhead.
Hugh Hefner publicly addressed numerous taboo issues through his publication creating a significant impact on our world today and shaping this country. Protrayal of sex in all forms being the most well know of Hefner's accomplishments. I highly recommend the documentary Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist, and Rebel. I knew how significant a historical figure he was before seeing this film, but it is a wonderful guide through all he has done. A great thank you from me to you for work Mr. Hefner. You will forever be the coolest man.

"Beauty is everywhere -- on the campus, in the office, living next door ... Nice girls like sex too -- it's a natural part of life. Don't be ashamed of it." -Hugh Hefner

"Follow your own particular dreams. We are handed a life by peers, parents and society, you can do that or follow your own dreams. Life is short, be a dreamer but be a practical person." -Hugh Hefner

Yes, I've been listening to 70's music

"Who draws the crowd and plays so loud, baby it's the guitar man." duh! love it.

that's not my name

Whenever I hit the town for some late night shenanigans, lookin fly and having a few drinks, I tend to get approached by members of the opposite sex. I have gone through numerous fake names to give these persistent males, though I thought none to be suitable enough to use again. That is until now! Ladies and gentlemen I give you my new line when men come up to hit on me in bars:

"Hi, my name is Carmen. Where in the world am I?"

It's really good when I add my fake dumb blonde voice with it! Yes it's fake. Sheesh.

happiness came in the form of happiness

Hello world! I would like to let you know that I had a fantastic day! "Why Kate, why was this day so wonderful?" is what you may be asking, well I'll tell you! You see I am currently in the lovely state know as Florida, yes Florida. The land once trekked upon by Ponce de Leon, now a Mecca for retirees and sun soakers of all types. You see it was here, in this sunshine state, that I came to a realization about myself. Let me back up just a step though, my day began with a trip to the Safety Harbor Spa. In this heavenly building I recieved a manicure, pedicure, Swedish massage and a European facial. <Insert smiley face here>
valentine beach heart shape picture and wallpaper

Though all these things were so incredibly fabulous, it was the people I encountered along the way that inspired me. The most memorable of them all was the lady named Vicky. A few years ago her husband of 53 years passed away. They met when she was 15, were married two years later, and were completely in love. She never said it, but it was known. Now I am a rather good judge of character who sees people who claim to be 'in love' all the time. Also, I am a strong believer in not getting married at such a young age due to my experience of being engaged at 19. However, this was real. More real than I have ever seen it before. The truth and emotion expressed through her words made me long for that sort of love in my life. If I am ever lucky enough to meet someone I will care for that eternally, and have the feeling be mutual, I would wish it to last forever though even a day would suffice. To have 53 years as they, is blessing indeed. love.

Aye! Avast!

"I've never seen a gay pirate before, I didn't think there were any." -My grandmother after watching Pirates of the Caribbean. I love her and her hilariously awesome quotes!

I'm in Florida!

I believe it would be fair to say that my trip thus far has been awesome! Not only did I soak up some wonderful sun on the beach today, but I also went shopping and enjoyed my favorite meal ever, brunch! Ahhh yes the ever-so-amazing brunch. Love.

Well I believe now I will be going for a lovely midnight swim and gaze at the stars in the clear Florida sky. Love to all.

the Beatles!!

It's been about a year since my obsessed with the Beatles phase. You know what I'm talking about, pretty much every normal person has one. Anywho, of course I still love my Beatles! Listening to them yesterday really calmed my nerves and brought me to a more relaxed state. It's truly amazing the power that music has on us. I soon might fall into my old obsessed ways, at least for a short bout! ;)

where?

As I was looking through a list of quotes, I came across one that reflected me nicely! I commonly refer to myself as, and know I am, rather weird. Thus, the following stood out like Waldo in the real world.

"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love." -Dr. Seuss

:) love.

Never forget, through good times and bad,
you are wonderful just as you are and the life you have had.
Keep a level head when the going gets rough,
and you'll make it through no matter how tough.
Always remember you have hope on your side,
and others next to you along for the ride.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss

Dylan

Love.

Freak of the Week

"I spend a lot on all the clothes that I got
'cause all the geeks that I meet they all look cooler than me"

I'm sorry but this song is always stuck in head! Though, in a way I don't mind because I love some Butch Walker! Ohh! I know! Let's post another picture of him! ok!

I apologize to anyone who reads my blog. I know there are few to zero of you out there, but know this, I am weird.

that drum machine ain't got no soul

Well I'm a horrible dancer I ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try
Yeah I'm a shitty romancer baby I ain't gonna lie
But I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try

when I get bored I rhyme...kinda

you had your chance now time is up,
I wish it wouldn't have ended this way but that's your luck
my best effort was given and you brushed it aside
I wanted you not some twisted mind ride.
I no longer care about you and your ways,
and all of those girls you consider your lays.
my life will better without you in it
I can't hold on you've passed the limit.

Weather Girl

When I first moved to Bloomington, IN, my driving force was to become a meteorologist.

*FYI studying the weather is a bitch.
However, I managed to stick with it receiving my one of my bachelors degrees in atmospheric science. Seeing as lately there have been numerous crazy storm systems across the country, I figured I'd bring it up! My former love for meteorology died in the Student Building on Indiana University's campus. Although, a great appreciation for storms remains! Who knows, maybe I'll return to my love someday and become a storm chaser!

US of A!

Our memories of 9/11 are not easily forgotten, and never will be. The death and horrors our country faced on that day seemed unreal at the time. With the recent events, a sense of pride and honor sweeps over the United States. May we all be thankful for what we have today, because we never know what tomorrow brings. Love one another.

My Old Kentucky Home

I always enjoy going back to my hometown to visit family and friends. This time of year is particularly lovely due to the excitement of the Kentucky Derby. Fireworks, parades, boat races, celebrities, hats and horses!  Louisville is a wonderful city that I will miss greatly in the years to come when I have moved even farther away.

(I don't really like parades)

Live Long and Prosper

My day did not end with blowing glass...

Driving to the glass factory, I came across a sign. A sign that brought feelings of extreme happiness and a momentary freak out. A sign that read 'Star Trek Exhibit' in gloriously large font. Oh euphoria! Can you guess where I went after blowing glass? Let's just say I now have a picture of myself in the transporter getting ready to be beamed up. Now you may ask the question, why isn't that photo posted? Easy answer. I have an irrational love for Spock, and Zachary Quinto exacerbates this.

Glass Blowing

As I woke up this morning, my excitement grew anticipating the activities I had planned for the day ahead. Being a person as appreciative of art as I, glass blowing would be a memorable activity with a beautiful artistic keepsake. After shaking hands with Ben, my adorable guide to the world of blowing glass, I was now ready to create! In front of me sat roughly a dozen colors, of which I choose two for my glass sphere; amber and white. Seemed like the combo would turn out lovely in the end, and Ben simply had to throw in that this was his favorite color combination. Of course it is Ben.
The next part can only be described with one word, awkward. As the molten blob of liquid glass sits at the end of this hollow stick, you must blow on the opposite end as Ben rotates the rod evenly.
*Remember not to blow too hard or too soft. Though you are told when you need to blow harder or vis versa.
Attempting to keep a pole in your mouth and continuously blowing into it, whilst it is rotating back and forth...needless to say I felt awkward. Perhaps it was my dirty mind making me chuckle, or the fact I had an audience of about 20 children touring the studio and watching my every move. All and all the experience was quite enjoyable and one I shan't be forgetting soon! In the end I was also told by Ben that I did a great job blowing glass. Of course I did Ben, of course I did.

Nothing Inspires Quite Like Your Melody

When in need of some inspiration, music is the greatest cure. Just sit and listen to the world around you. The beauty you will find is astounding.

Marvelous 1...

Oh Butch Walker, your music is amazing and you are sexy.

"And I can't live if you're not happy,
I can't live if you cry,
But I can live without you if it makes you smile
And I can't wait to see you rise
And I can't wait for you to shine
But I can wait for you if all you need is time " -Butch Walker

the earth is a wonder to behold

former dream job: world traveling photographer
let's face facts, not every pretty girl with a camera is a good photographer. no matter what they think.

For All I Know You Want Me Too

the best way to begin something is acknowledging how it started...this song has been stuck in my head all week! old school Weezer is truly a wonderful thing, so just come up to me and say hello to my heart! loves!
